amazing agreement Finally, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is granted to Commanders by the Vikings.

More than a month before the 2024 NFL Draft, it was evident that Kevin O’Connell’s squad intended to trade up for a quarterback when the Minnesota Vikings and the Houston Texans struck a deal for a late first-round pick. Minnesota can easily crack the top 10 now that they have the Nos. 11 and 23 picks in the first round, but they will need to contact the Washington Commanders and arrange a trade up to No. 2 in order to select the signal-caller the team really wants.

How to reach 2,600 points for the Vikings in order to complete a Commander’s trade
Jimmy Johnson created a draft pick trade value chart more than 30 years ago while he was coaching the Dallas Cowboys. The chart helped him determine which draft picks his team could accept in order to move back and which ones they could give up in order to advance.

Four decades later, the NFL still bases its draft pick transactions on the fundamentals of that chart. Although teams now utilize other versions of the approach, the Johnson model is still a reliable way to gain a rough idea of how NFL draft choice trades work.

Draft Tek estimates that the No. 2 overall pick in 2024 will be worth 2,600 points.

The Vikings will need to bring both of their first-round picks to the Commanders in exchange for No. 2. But the combined total of No. 11 (1,250) and No. 23 (760) is just 2,010, which means the Vikes are almost 600 points short of their goal.

The next pick Minnesota might trade is a Round 4 pick, which is only worth 78 points, as they don’t have their second or third round picks this year. In actuality, the total amount of draft capital the Vikings have in the 202 NFL Draft comes to 2,206.8, which is still 400 points short of the second pick.
