Everton And Leeds United Target Offered New Double-Salary Contract at Swansea city

Everton and Leeds United transfer target Joel Piroe has been offered a new contract which will see his current salary doubled at Swansea City, according to the Swansea Independent.

The Swans head coach Michael Duff revealed earlier this month that the club had opened talks with the Dutch attacker over a new deal. However, Duff has since played down his own admission.

Speaking after yesterday’s 1-1 draw at home against Coventry City, the manager revealed that he has not spoken to sporting director Paul Watson about the situation in four days [quotes via WalesOnline]:

“I’ve not had a conversation with Paul Watson about Joel Piroe for the last four days. So I don’t know where that one’s at.”

The Dutchman has been a revelation for the Welsh club since signing back in 2021, having scored 44 goals in 92 appearances in all competitions, including 41 in the Championship.

Clubs such as Premier League outfit Everton and the Championship trio of Leeds United, Southampton and Leicester City have all been linked with moves for the 24-year-old this summer but Piroe has remained at the Swansea.com Stadium for now.

The player certainly won’t come cheap, according to Mail Plus, who are reporting that Swansea City have set a minimum price tag of £15 million.

But now, there is a chance that the former PSV Eindhoven forward stays with the Swans should he accept a new contract worth double his current deal.

44 goals in 92 appearances across just two full campaigns are insane numbers and it’s no wonder that there have been rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Duff hinted in his most recent press conference that the player’s head was turned slightly, hence why he hasn’t had a great start to the 2023/24 season so it will be interesting to see whether Piroe does accept a contract extension at Swansea or force an exit before the transfer window slams shut.
