NEWS UPDATE: The Mets finally declared the arrival of a new pitcher to start in place of their injured ace.

The news that Japanese superstar starting pitcher Kodai Senga will miss all of 2019 due to a right posterior capsule strain behind his pitching shoulder was awful news for the whole Mets organization.

Senga, having just finished his first major league season as the runner-up for NL Rookie of the Year, was intentionally chosen by the Mets to be their starting pitcher of choice going into 2024. Senga will miss an indeterminate amount of time due to this decision’s backfiring nature, and he is anticipated to start the regular season on the disabled list.

Furthermore, the Mets, led by president of baseball operations David Stearns, do not intend to enlist outside assistance, even if they are unsure of when their star righty will be able to return.

Stearns said that the club is happy with the depth of starting pitchers they have, and that Senga’s injury has no bearing on their game plan.

The team will probably use Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, Jose Quintana, Adrian Houser, and most likely Tylor Megill, who has experience filling in as a starter due to injury, for that. Jose Butto and Joey Lucchesi are additional alternatives. Regarding the lower league starters, however, Stearns believes that this year they should throw in the minors first.

Although Stearns is optimistic that his star player will start a lot of games for the team this season, the Mets are hoping that Senga won’t miss too much time once the regular season begins. However, they won’t have a solid timeline until the symptoms go away. An injury to the shoulder is never good.
