Salernitana have agreed to pay £40 million to quickly re-sign the Brazilian champion.

If Ederson’s club approves of a transfer, Liverpool has the funds available to buy him from Atalanta this summer.

According to Tutto Atalanta, Liverpool has £40 million sitting in reserve in case Atalanta decides to sell Ederson. The Brazilian, who signed from Salernitana in 2022, had an incredible season in Bergamo.

Although Atalanta is realistic and doesn’t especially want to sell, they have traditionally seen their best players depart. In fact, they are already accepting bids for Teun Koopmeiners this summer as well.

However, that can prove to be a problem. Even after winning the Europa League, Koopmeiners’ availability shows that they are prepared to sell this summer, but if Ederson departed as well, they would also lose the backbone of their squad.
And Liverpool waits because of this. Although they have been continuously connected to Ederson for months, the strategy now is to wait and see whether Atalanta will consider offers.

If so, the Reds intend to sign one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders from the previous campaign.

Liverpool desires Edson
Due to Ederson’s success this season, he has been called up to the national team and will be playing for Brazil in Copa America 2024. In a friendly match against Mexico this month, he even won his first cap.

All of this has advantages and disadvantages for Liverpool. If Ederson does well in the States, there will be much less competition for him, but there won’t be any rush to sign him.

Ederson most likely won’t move till the tournament is complete, so the Reds can wait this one out.

It’s debatable if Liverpool should sign him. Even after Thiago left the team, the midfield position is still filled. A defensive midfielder like Ederson is the only player in the centre that has room, so the Reds must make the proper choice there.

Alan Varela of FC Porto is another really intriguing choice there, and he has also frequently been connected to Liverpool.
