Daniel Farke received an official goodbye message from Wilfried Gnonto following his Leeds United bench appearance.

Gnonto has found himself struggling to get into the first team at Elland Road in recent weeks, leading to speculation about his future in Farke’s

Journalist Phil Hay told The Square Ball podcast [23 November] that, if Gnonto gets his head down and continues working hard, he should remain at Leeds beyond January, and that’s what he looked to do last night

“If Gnonto doesn’t agitate and he seems content and keeps his head down, I’d be a little surprised if anything happens,” said Hay, “But if it starts to rumble again I do think that the attitude of a lot of people might be ‘Why don’t we just resolve this and get somebody else?’”

The Italian started from the bench yet again before he was called upon from the bench with 20 minutes to go in a bid to change the game in the Whites’ favour.

Daniel James had struggled to impact the game, but Gnonto looked focused as he took to the field, and turned in a performance that should show his boss and the Leeds fans that he is prepared to get his head down and fight for his place.

In his 20 minutes on the pitch, the winger had a 100% duel success rate, a 91% pass accuracy, and racked up 0.21 xG from two attempts as he looked to force the issue and pull his team ahead. His 18 touches and two fouls drawn also illustrate how he worked to make a difference from the bench. [Sofascore
