A report has explained why Nottingham Forest chose to sign Willy Boly during the summer of 2022. The Reds plucked the centre-back from Wolves for a small fee over 12 months ago.
Boly has been something of a surprise package since checking in on Trentside. When he was added, some fans questioned why the club were taking an ageing central defender into their ranks.
The 32-year-old has struggled with injuries a little bit since he arrived at the club. However, when he’s stayed fit, he’s been a wonderful player for Steve Cooper to call upon.
Report explains why Forest signed Boly
It perhaps won’t come as a surprise that Forest wanted Boly as a player who could immediately go into the leadership group. The player is vastly experienced and the Reds are very happy with him.
The Athletic claims that Boly was added to the Reds’ squad precisely because of the experience he brings to the table and the type of character that he is.
This season, Boly has managed to stay fit. He’s started nine games for the Reds, although he was left out of the starting eleven against Aston Villa last weekend.
Boly is important to Forest fortunes
Even though Boly might not be considered the first choice at the moment, his presence in the squad is important given the leadership qualities he brings to the group.
At 32 he’s one of the more experienced members of the Forest squad. Last weekend, he was chosen on the bench ahead of Joe Worrall and perhaps that speaks volumes.
Boly will be out of contract in the summer. With that in mind, Forest will face a big decision over whether to keep the central defender beyond this season.
