Willy Adames Shocks MLB, Rejects Giants’ Offer for Seven-Year, $190 Million Deal with Mets

Willy Adames, one of MLB’s premier shortstops, has reportedly agreed to a seven-year, $182 million deal with the San Francisco Giants. This contract marks the largest in the franchise’s history, surpassing prior marquee signings. At 29, Adames had a stellar 2024 season with the Milwaukee Brewers, achieving career highs in home runs (32), RBIs (112), and stolen bases (21), making him a highly sought-after free agent this offseason.

While initially linked to teams like the Mets, Dodgers, and Braves, the Giants secured Adames, who is expected to provide a significant boost to their infield. Known for his power at the plate and reliable defensive skills, Adames was viewed as an excellent fit for the Giants, especially given their recent defensive struggles at shortstop.

The Mets had reportedly offered a seven-year, $160 million deal, with plans to move Adames to third base to complement Francisco Lindor at shortstop. However, Adames’s preference to remain a shortstop likely influenced his decision to join the Giants instead.

This signing demonstrates the Giants’ commitment to bolstering their lineup and maintaining competitiveness in a strong National League. Adames’s arrival should solidify their defense and add depth to their offense as they aim to challenge for the postseason in 2025.
