Would the New York Yankees part with The Martian? At least one analyst thinks they should in order to land a top, young closer.

Fansided’s Zach Presnell proposed that the Yankees ship top outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez, aka The Martian, and right-handed pitcher Will Warren to the Athletics to bring over All-Star closer Mason Miller.

“It would cost the Yankees an arm and a leg to bring Miller in, but he would be brought in to be the most dominant closer in the game on the best team in the league. That would be the idea,” Pressnell wrote.

Calling it a “bold” move, Presnell prefaced the proposal with the idea that this only works if the Yankees are able to land superstar free agent Juan Soto.

“Again, I need to make this clear, this is only in the case that New York inks Juan Soto to a contract of 10 years or longer,” Presnell wrote. “If they miss on Soto, Dominguez becomes even more valuable.”

Miller was floated as a possible trade at the deadline in 2024, but the A’s eventually held on to him. He saved 28 games for the A’s and struck out 104 batters over 65 innings last season.

It would be a big price to pay for Miller, who has made it clear he’d like to go back to starting at some point.

Domínguez is still just 21 years old. Coming off of Tommy John surgery, he only played in 18 big league games in 2024 and struggled in the field and at the plate. He slashed .309/.368/.480 in Triple-A this season.
