The recent FA Cup third round draw saw a ‘one in 8,192’ fixture selected for the first time in the competition’s 152-year history.
The draw, which took place on Sunday afternoon, has seen a number of blockbuster clashes scheduled in, with Premier League heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool set to face each other, while local rivals Sunderland and Newcastle United are also pencilled in to meet at the Stadium of Light.
The fixture will take place in the New Year, with one of the more unlikely outcomes unfolding after Leeds United were drawn against Peterborough United.
The fixture marks the 13th time in a row that Leeds have been drawn away from home in the FA Cup, which is a first across the entire history of the oldest competition in English football.
Previous FA Cup away ties for the club include Fulham, West Ham United, Arsenal, Queens Park Rangers and Crawley Town
Some Leeds fans have since reacted to the statistic, which had odds of 8,192/1, to unfold, where they said: “One of the most Leeds thing I’ve ever read.” Another added: “I reckon there is more chance of a person being struck by lightning than Leeds United getting a home draw in the FA Cup.” While another disgruntled supporter claimed: “That’s OK, we will be drawn away every round, but win the games in our away kit or third kit, get to the final, play in home kit & lose. That would be typical Leeds that.”
Regardless of the draw, Daniel Farke will be hoping his side can carry their strong form from the Championship into the cup, after his side recorded an impressive eight wins across their last 10 fixtures.
