NEWS UPDATE: Nottingham Forest has made the decision to name a “strong” manager to replace Cooper.

Even though Nottingham Forest has managed to stay out of the bottom three of the Premier League thus far this year, their 5-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage has raised doubts in Evangelos Marinakis’ mind about the situation at the City Ground and may jeopardize Steve Cooper’s job once more.

And this comes as no surprise, either, given that the former Swansea City boss has seen his side go from victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to recent capitulation to leave them just four points clear of the dropzone. With that said, reports suggest that Forest are already eyeing one particular replacement for Cooper, who faces a vital week when it comes to keeping hold of his job.

Football Insider claims that Cooper has confided in friends that he anticipates being fired from Forest shortly and that he is aware of rumors circulating about his status there. Cooper could have finally tried his luck with Marinakis one too many times, since the manager has come dangerously close to being relieved of his duties twice already, with Forest sitting precariously close to the relegation zone with just three wins this season. It is rumored that the Midlands club is looking to start over with a replacement.

According to The Guardian, Marinakis and Forest are eyeing a move for Julen Lopetegui if they sack Cooper. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss has been out of a job since his shock decision to leave Molineux at the end of pre-season and could now have his pathway back to the Midlands and the Premier League.
